You do not need to a born musician or a gifted rapper to start making your own music. In fact, you do not need to have experience as well but a little interest will suffice to make your own beats.
The first thing that you will need to do is to learn how to do the freestyle way. Note that there is really no fixed rules to follow as the best method to make great music beats. So, allow your creativity juice to take charge. Do not limit yourself in anyway.
Just record the beats that you make and get your friends or family members to listen to it. Do not be discouraged if you were getting negative feedback. Instead work around to fix the beats as they suggest and then compare the original beats with the one you have just amended based on third party comments.
Okay, now don’t decide yet as to which music beats to keep and which to scrap. Take some time off listening to music beats that the pros made. If you are into the techno beats like me, listen to Bob Dylan, Price, Nirvana etc. to get a feel of the construction of the beats and tweak yours with the same music components. No, I’m not asking you to steal or to copy their work but add those music elements into your own beats – tempo, sequence, intensity, pitch etc.
Overtime, you will be able to come up with your own unique style of music beats. But again, do not limit yourself as to what type of beats you want to make. It could be hip hop, rap, jazz, tehcno, combination of two or more of these etc. As long as the beats made were able to engage the audience into it, then those are great beats. We call it the emotional beats.
